Studio Policies & Family Agreement
Welcome to Sparrow & Song Studio! I am so excited to make music with you and your family. The following policies help ensure that lessons are enjoyable, respectful, consistent, and supportive for everyone.
1. Registration & Payment
Lessons are booked in three terms throughout the studio school year, which runs from September through June.
Families have the option to pay for lessons:
- Monthly
- By term
Payment must be collected no later than 48 hours after the student’s first lesson.
Any promotional, introductory, or lesson packages must be paid in full upfront before the package begins.
Lesson times are reserved specifically for each student. Regular attendance and timely payment help ensure that these spaces can be maintained throughout the school year.
2. Missed Lessons & Make-Up Lessons
If a student or family needs to cancel a scheduled lesson, it is the responsibility of the student/family to communicate with the teacher and make every effort to schedule a make-up lesson.
Make-up lessons are subject to the teacher’s availability and cannot always be guaranteed.
If the teacher needs to cancel a lesson, the teacher will be responsible for making every effort to reschedule the lesson or provide an appropriate refund/credit, as applicable.
3. Illness Policy
To help protect the health and well-being of students, families, and the teacher, no one should participate in an in-person lesson while they are ill.
Because many Sparrow & Song Studio lessons take place inside family homes, families must communicate with the teacher as soon as possible if anyone in the household is unwell.
If a student, sibling, parent/caregiver, or other member of the household is experiencing an illness that could be contagious, please inform the teacher before the lesson.
The teacher will always do their very best to reschedule the lesson when illness prevents an in-person lesson from taking place.
When in doubt, please err on the side of caution. Protecting our studio community is a shared responsibility!
4. Performance Opportunities
Sparrow & Song Studio offers three optional performance opportunities throughout the September–June studio school year.
These performances are designed to be relaxed, encouraging, and welcoming experiences rather than formal or high-pressure recitals.
All students are warmly encouraged to participate and share their music, but participation is ultimately optional and up to each student and their family.
5. Lesson Environment & Behaviour
Sparrow & Song Studio is committed to creating a positive, encouraging, and focused learning environment for every student.
During a student’s lesson, families are asked to ensure that distractions from other family members, siblings, pets, electronics, or household activities are kept to a minimum whenever possible.
Students are expected to treat their teacher with kindness and respect, just as the teacher will always treat students with kindness and respect.
Disrespectful, threatening, or inappropriate behaviour from a student or family member will not be tolerated. If serious or repeated concerns arise, Sparrow & Song Studio reserves the right to terminate lessons.
6. Inclusion, Adaptability & Mutual Respect
At Sparrow & Song Studio, adaptability and inclusion are key to working with all learners. Every student is an individual, and lessons will be adapted whenever possible to support each student’s unique needs, learning style, interests, abilities, and goals.
At the same time, a successful teacher-student relationship is built on mutual respect, kindness, and trust.
Sparrow & Song Studio is committed to meeting students where they are, while asking that students and families extend the same kindness, patience, and respect to their teacher.
Together, we can create a music-learning environment where everyone feels safe, welcomed, valued, and encouraged to grow.
